Abstract
The regiochemistry of the coupling between p-nitrobenzylic radicals and aci-nitronate ions in the association step of SRNl reactions is shown to be dependent on steric factors. Branching at the carbon which is a to the reaction site causes a shift in product distribution toward 0- alkylation (C-0 bond formation) and away from C-alkylation (CC bond formation).
