Abstract
Abstract Trityl tetraphenylborate, prepared from trityl triflate and sodium tetraphenylborate, is shown to be a useful hydride and methyl anion abstraction reagent for organometallic compounds. It reacts with (η 5-C 5 Me 5)(PMe 3) 2 RuMe to give the fulvene complex [η 4-C 5 Me 4 CH 2)(PMe 3) 2 RuMe] BPh 4, and with (η 5-C 5 H 5) 2 ZrMe 2 in acetonitrile-d 3 to afford the cationic methyl derivative [(η 5-C 5 H 5) 2 ZrMe (NCCD 3)] BPh 4.
