Abstract

Trifluoromethyl groups have been synthesized before by halogen exchange between an inorganic fluoride and an organic trihalide RCX3 (where R was H or CH3), 192 or by the interaction of antimony trifluoride and an allylic trihalide. 3 Attempts to prepare CH3CH2CF3 by an extension of these methods indicated the need for modifications.
