Abstract

By FG BADDAR and LANSON S. EL-ASSAL. o-Methoxyphenylmagnesium bromide and succinic anhydride give a mixture of po-methoxybenzoylpropionic acid and y-hydroxy-yy-di- o-methoxyphenylbutyric acid; the latter acid is converted into its lactone when refluxed with alcohol.
