Abstract

2-Methyl-3, 5-dinitroacetophenone.-2-Methyl-3, 5-di-nitrobenzoyl chloride was prepared by heating a mixture of 45 g. of 3, 5-dinitro-o-toluic acid,'35 ml. of purified thionyl chloride, and 200 ml. of dry benzene under reflux until the acid completely dissolved. The solvents were then removed by distillation under diminished pressure, and the residue was dissolved in 250 ml. of dry ether. This ether solution was used without further purification, An ether ...
