Abstract

To a 250ml round-bottom flask were added 4-benzoyl- pyridine (9.2 g, 0.05 mol), sodium cyanide (6.8 g, 0.13 mol), ammonium carbonate (28.8 g, 0.30 moll ethanol (80 ml) and water (60ml). The flask was sealed and the mixture was heated with stirring to 343 K for 24 h. The solution was cooled to room temperature and filtered.
