Abstract

The reaction of nitrilium salts with azides allows the synthesis with good yields of 1, 4, 5-alkyl or-aryl-substituted tetrazolium salts. The mechanism of this reaction is discussed. Reduction or alkylation of these tetrazolium salts leads to the corresponding tri-or tetra-substituted tetrazolines.
