Abstract

The use of N-carbamoyliminium ion initiated reactions for the generation of spiroimidazolidin- 2-ones has been successfully exploited. Treatment of hydantoins with saturated alkyllithium and alkylmagnesium reagents gave the corresponding 4-hydroxyimidazolidin-2-one adducts.
