Abstract: Protonation of fluorotoluenes and fluoromesitylenes in fluorosulfonic acid-antimony pentafluoride solution gives stable methylfluorobenzenonium ions (methylfluorohexadienyl cations). lH and'9F nmr spectra of these ions were obtained and structures assigned.
