Abstract

Abstract Bromination of isophorone with excess of bromine in carbon tetrachloride at 0 gave 2, 4, 6-tribromo-3-bromomethyl-5, 5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenone which on further treatment with bromine afforded 2, 4, 6, 6-tetrabromo-3-bromomethyl-5, 5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenone. Bromination of isophorone and 4-bromoisophorone at 25 gave rasp. 2, 6, 6-tribromo-and 2, 4, 6-tribromo-3-dibromomethyl-5, 5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenone.
