Abstract

Abstract Nine salts of halogenoacetic acids MOOC–CH 2 [BOND] X were prepared and characterized by their thermochemical reactivity. It was found that in seven cases elimination of MX led to polymerization of the organic part of the molecule. The resulting polyester, polyglycolide, could be isolated easily by washing the reaction product with water. It has a distinct porous morphology.
