Abstract

5e thionyl chloride afforded a mixture of chlorides 7-9 (eq 4). The relative proportions of each chloride depend on the structure of 3, the solvent of reaction, as well as the temperature. Discussion on the rearrangement process will be deferred to the later part of the paper.
