Abstract

Thieno [3, 4-~ 1thiophenes, the so-called nonclassical thiophenes, have been the object of chemical investigations for about two and a halfdecade8. l The 10-electron system with sulfur in the formal oxidation state+ 4 is of interest from both the synthetic” and the theoretical% iewpoints.
