Abstract
Morphine has often been interpreted as a tutiary amino alcohol derived from the various polycyclic ring systems which can be discerned in the molecule of the alkaloid. 2 The study of condensed cyclic aryl ethers3 and sulfides4 carrying alkamine side-chains has been based on the assumption that these groups may be responsible, in part, for the analgesic action of morphine.
