Abstract

Since the oxygen atom in (I) must be derived from water during the isolation procedure, we examined an alternative work-up under anhydrous conditions. After filtration of silver iodide from the reaction mixture, the solvent in the filtrate was evaporated at 20'122 mm, and the black tarry residue was subjected to distillation at 0.5 mm; the only volatile substance was iodine.
