Abstract

The low steric requirements of the fluoro substituent allow the insertion of a t-butyl group in the 2-position of 3-fluorophenol, aa evidenced by the preparation of the title compound. The nmr spectra of this material and some analogs were used for structure proof; long-range HF spin-spin coupling between the protons of the 2-and 4-t-butyl groups and the adjacent fluorine was observed.
