Abstract

The kinetics of the oxidation of o-mercaptophenylacetic acid (I) to the corresponding disulfide (11) by hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution have been studied spectrophotometrically. The rate in the PH range 2.44-7.17 in the presence of excess hydrogen peroxide was pseudo zero order and was expressed by the equation:-d (RSH)/dt= ko= ko'(H202)/(H+)'/~ 4-ko"/(H+)'/r.
