Abstract
I I1 I11 if the nitration filtrate from 1, lO-phenanthr~ line~(I) is kept slightly acidic and evaporated, or 4, 5-diazafluoren-9-one (111) can be obtained if the nitration filtrate is made slightly basic and evaporated to half its volume. The new compound (111) was obtained directly from the nitration filtrate in the first experiment, and in the second experiment it was prepared from I1 by imposing similar conditions.
