Abstract

Our interest in bridgehead olefins3 and paddlanes4 has necessitated the synthesis of some bicyclo [nll] alkanes in which both bridgeheads are substituted with functionalized groups. In particular, we have been pursuing the group of diesters 1, of which la5 and lb6 are known. This report relates a simple, general approach (eq l), so far successful for lb-ld. I6
