Abstract
" 3 of the nitrile 7 with sulfuric acid followed by water or methanol gave the amide 13, identical with that prepared by dimerization of 10. Although this amide 13 resisted further hydrolysis under mild conditions, it could be converted to the acid 12 by treatment with nitrous acid.
