Abstract

The reaction was carried out by the dropwise addition of methyl vinyl ketone to an alcoholic solution of an aminoquinoline or its hydrochloride and ferric chloride. The two previously unknown methylphenanthrolines were obtained as white needles from benzene-petroleum ether and were soluble in ether, ethanol and hot water. Although this method was successful for the preparation of X and XII, it failed in the case of 4-methyl-1, lO-phenanthroline (XVI). ...
