Abstract
bJ-b IV observation is startling because the formation of these products must involve, in addition to reductive coupling, the replacement of two methoxyl groups by hydrogen atoms. It is seen that the demethoxylation has a vinylogous relationship to the reduction of esters to the corresponding aldehydes.
