Abstract

Thieno [2, 3-c] pyridine, an isostere of isoquinoline [1], has emerged as an attractive structural scaffold in search for small molecule pharmaceutical agents [2]. Thieno-[2, 3-c] pyridine resembles isoquinoline sterically, but contains a π-rich thiophene and a π-deficient pyridine, leading to an inherently polarized push-pull system with a ground-state dipole moment of 2.85 D [1a].
