Abstract

Seven-membered cyclic compounds possessing trisubstituted double bonds have been effectively constructed employing the Grubbs catalyst to effect olefin metathesis. The keto ester does not undergo cyclization; however, alcohols protected by the silyl groups smoothly cyclized into seven-membered compounds.
