Abstract

The synthesis of tetraphenylresorcinol, 2, 4, 6-triphenylresorcinol and 2, 4- diphenylnaphthoresorcinol is described. During the oxidation of these phenyl-substituted resorcinols carbon monoxide is evolved followed by a ring contraction to phenyl-substituted cyclopentadienones.
