Abstract

We outline a reaction pathway for the cleavage of the P Se bond in trialkylphosphine selenide during the synthesis of CdSe nanocrystals. The reaction between cadmium carboxylate and trimethylphosphine selenide in the presence of an alcohol produces alkoxytrimethylphosphonium (2).
