Abstract
A series of studies on triarylmethyl cations and diarylalkyl cations2 led to the development of eq. 1, which relates the position of alcohol-cation (ROH-R+) equilibria to the concentration of acid in waterstrong acid systems. A similar equation, eq. 2, was developed for diarylolefin- diarylalkyl cation (01-R+) equilibria.
