Abstract

The overall yields from monoethyl malonate to final pyrimidinone were generally> 50%. All p- keto ester intermediateP were analyzed by lH NMR and were generally of acceptable purity to be used directly in the guanidine condensation to pyrimidinone. All of the pyrimidinones, including the intermediates (5-hydrogen), exhibited acceptable combustion analysis (see Table I) and'H NMR spectra consistent with their structural assignment.
