Abstract
A series of ethanolamides has been made from an assorted group of mono- and di-carboxylic acids. A noteworthy difference in chemical properties was observed during attempts to prepare the bis amides and the imides from phthalic acid and suc- cinic acid derivatives. The reaction of ethanolamine with either dimethyl phthalate or phthalic anhydride gave only the cyclic imide, while in contrast diethyl succinate or succinic anhydride gave only the open chain ...
