Abstract In contrast to the borrowing hydrogen-type N-alkylation reactions, in which alcohols were activated by transition metal-catalyzed anaerobic dehydrogenation, the addition of external aldehydes was accidentally found to be a simple and effective protocol for alcohol activation.
