Abstract

It has been shown in one of the earlier papers1 of this Series that the aluminum hydride (prepared in situ from lithium aluminum hydride and aluminum chloride) reductions of 2, 5- dimethylpyridine methiodide and 2-methyl-5-ethylpyridine methiodide are accompanied by cleavage of the pyridine ring under the formation of 2-methylaminomethyl-2, 4-hexadiene and 5-methylaminomethyl-2, 4-heptadiene, respectively.
