Abstract

Methylsulfinyl carbanion reacts with cyclopentanone at ambient temperature to afford the unexpected d-meth-ylene-1-cyclopentene-1-pentanoic acid (2a) in good yield. This reaction appears limited to cyclopentanones, with only low yields isolated from 2-and 3-methylcyclo~ entanones. Mechanistic considerations and some reactions
