Abstract

A new condensation reaction between two molecules of the methylsulfonyl carbanion (CHpSOaCH2-) or the I methylsulfinyl carbanion (CHsSOCHz-) and a variety of 1, 2-1, 3-and l14-dicarboxylic esters is described. In favorable cases the condensation proceeds to yield an unsaturated monoketo disulfoxide or disulfone containing a new five-, six-, or seven- membered ring.
