Abstract

The use of chiral catalysts to effect asymmetric hydrogenation of prochiral olefinic substrates with high optical yields represents one of the most impressive achievements to date in catalytic selectivity. Results approaching 100% enantiomeric excess were achieved in the hydrogenation of prochiral enamides [(Z)-2-acetamidocinnamic acid derivatives] to the corresponding amides, using homogeneous neutral and cationic rhodium complexes ...
