Abstract

ABSTRACT: The crystalline 2-thionaphthylmethyl isocyanide (L), prepared from the novel N- (formamidomethyl)-N-benzyl morpholinium iodide (21, via transfer of elements of CH2h+ CH0, is totally devoid of pervasive odour. The cycle-addition of the conjugate base of (I) to mtrrles followed by desulfurization, under very mild conditions, provides an attractive route to i&dazoles.
