Abstract
Abstract Reaction of monomeric 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate with sulphochlorides, such as eg toluenesulphonyl chloride, gives rise to asymmetrical ethylene esters which can be polymerized to beads possessing alkylating properties. In this procedure, a single precursor can be used to prepare a large variety of polymeric sorbents, catalysts, and the like.
