Abstract
Summary Substituted benzenesulfonanilides containing nitro groups ortho or para to the sulfone group may be decomposed by concentrated alksli to the amine, nitrophenol and sodium sulfite.'This cleavage between the carbon of the ring and the sulfur atom offers a different mode of decomposition from previous hydrolyses which attempted cleavage between the sulfur and nitrogen.
