Abstract

Summary The hydrogenation of aldehydes, such as benzaldehyde, containing no reactive hydrogen on the alpha carbon atom, in alcoholic ammonia solution may be accomplished at temperatures below 75'. By suitable control of the ratio of aldehyde to ammonia, the product may be predominantly primary amine or secondary amine.
