Abstract

The recent monograph on pyrimidines by Brown2 has outlined comprehensively the principal methods of synthesis and the chemical and physical properties of pyrimidines. It has been tacitly implied herein that, although a great variety of mercaptopyrimidines have been prepared, only the 2-mercaptopyrimidines have been synthesized directly from a 3- carbon intermediate and an appropriate condensing agent (eg, thiourea).
