Abstract: The reactions of cyclohexyl, n-propyl, 1-apocamphyl, and phenyl chloroformates with silver tetrafluoroborate and silver hexafluoroantimonate give products formally derived from carboxylium and carbonium ions. The presence of the base, tetramethylurea, is required in the first two cases to eliminate the possibility that the observed products arise from transient olefin.
