Abstract

When dilute aqueous solutions of HzOz are irradiated with 2537-A. light, the radicals which are formed initiate the chain oxidation of CO by HzOZ. A proposed mechanism, based on kinetic studies at 28", leads to the ronclusions that (a) the rate constant for the reaction of OH with CO is 13 times that of OH with Ha02;(b) the primary product formed by irradiation of HzOz is the OH radical and not water and oxygen atoms;(c) the GOAH radical formed by ...
