Abstract

The introduction of the benzyloxycarbonyl (carbobenzoxy) group for the masking of amine groups' was a major contribution to peptide syntheses. Benzyloxycarbonyl derivatives are readily made and are usually crystalline, and the protecting group can be removed by several procedures.
