Abstract

As part of our research on the synthesis of naturally occuring indanes, we prepared amide 5b as one of the key intermediate compounds. The parent system of the title compound was previously prepared by Huisgen et al.'Ketone 1 was converted to ester 2 by a Reformatsky reaction with ethyl bromoacetate2 followed by catalytic reduction.
