Abstract

Abstract The synthesis of (±)-talaromycin B is described which employs diastereotopic hydroxymethyl groups in a spiroketalization as a means of controlling remote stereochemical relationships. The acyclic precursor is constructed in a lynchpin process from a single alkylating reagent.
