High-valent tin (IV) octabromotetraphenylporphyrinato trifluoromethanesulfonate,[SnIV (Br8TPP)(OTf) 2], was used for selective methoxymethylation of alcohols and phenols with formaldehyde dimethyl acetal (FDMA) at room temperature.
