Abstract
In contrast to previously described results, we have found that under suitable experimental conditions peracetic acid is a reasonably efficient reagent for oxidation of aromatic amines to nitrobenzenes. The oxidation of both aromatic and aliphatic amines with peracetic acid has been described in the literature but in most cases relatively poor yields of nitro compounds were obtained. 1--3 Thus oxidation of aniline with peracetic acid is reported to give only ...
