Abstract
The influence of substituents on the equilibrium benzhydrol-diphenylcarbonium ion has been studied in aqueous sulphuric acid. The pKR+ values have been correlated using the linear free energy relationships. In a series of sixteen disubstituted benzhydrols it has been found that the shift of the protonation equilibrium caused by two substituents does not agree with the presumed sum of shifts caused by the individual substituents which we studied ...
