Abstract
A series of hetero-substituted tropylium salts (XC 7 H 6+· Y−), including three new compounds, have been synthesized. Their relative reactivities in one-electron reductions with zinc powder have been determined by the use of a competitive-reaction method, which gave the following reactivity sequence: CH 3 OC 7 H 6+(k rel.= 0.0295), tC 4 H 9-C 7 H 6+(0.146), CH 3 SC 7 H 6+(0.255), C 7 H 7+(1.00), C 6 H 5-C 7 H 6+(2.50),(C 6 H 5) 3 Si- ...
