Abstract: Vanadium (V) in aqueous perchloric acid oxidized 2-ethylcyclobutanols and 2, 2- dimethylcyclobutanol to 4-hydroxyhexanal and 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentana1, respectively. In Hzl* O cyclobutanol gives 4-hydroxybutanol with I8O incorporated in the hydroxyl group.
