Abstract
Because of the poor yield in the cyclization step with 14 we examined the sulfones 20 (Scheme IV) in the hope that the presence of an electron-deficient double bond would speed up cyclization (relative to other processes). The known alcohol 1814 was converted into the corresponding bromide 19, and this was used to alkylate sulfonamide 11 (19-20).
